Founded by Laura Smith, Certified Professional Organizer® (CPO®) and Certified Virtual Organizing Professional™ (CVOP™), An Organized Project brings over 30 years of experience helping clients transform their spaces—and the way they live and work within them.

Hi, I’m Laura, and I was born an Organizer.

While many people discover organizing later in life, my passion began when I was about four years old. My early childhood room was full of toys and books everywhere, until one day, something clicked. I sorted, categorized, and put everything away. From that moment on, my room never returned to chaos. That early instinct for order, clarity, and systems has guided me ever since.

Before founding An Organized Project, I began my professional career as a ballet dancer in New York, where I developed discipline, precision, and an eye for detail.  These are skills that deeply influence how I manage projects and guide clients today.

Now, with decades of experience, I help clients navigate everything from residential decluttering and home organization to downsizing, move management, and corporate space optimization. My goal is always the same: to reduce stress, restore control, and create systems that feel natural and easy to maintain.

Laura is a long-standing member of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) and a Past President of NAPO Los Angeles (NAPO-LA), having served on the Board of Directors from 2019–2024.

With Laura's passion for volunteerism and education in the industry,  she served for four years in the Professional Organizers Learning Academy (POLA). Here, she supported education, professional development, and industry growth by sourcing speakers and professional development opportunities to bring other organizers relevant information to better serve their clients. 

Laura Smith is a Certified Professional Organizer® (CPO®), Certified Virtual Organizing Professional™ (CVOP™).
The CPO® credential is the only independently accredited designation in the organizing industry, requiring:

  • 1,500+ documented paid client hours
  • Passing the BCPO® certification exam
  • Ongoing continuing education and recertification every three years​
